Hot water heated by the sun is used in many ways. While perhaps best known in a residential setting to provide hot domestic water, solar hot water also has industrial applications, e.g. to generate electricity. Designs suitable for hot climates can be much simpler and cheaper, and can be considered an appropriate technology for these places. The global solar thermal market is dominated by China, Europe, Japan and India. In order to heat water using solar energy, a collector, often fastened to a roof or a wall facing the sun, heats working fluid that is either pumped (active system) or driven by natural convection (passive system) through it.
Evacuated Tube Collectors are the latest technology in Solar Water Heating. They are economical, easy to install & good for hard water conditions, as the tubes can be easily removed & cleaned.
These collectors feature parallel rows of transparent glass tubes. Each tube contains a glass outer tube and metal absorber tube attached to a fin. The fin's coating absorbs solar energy but inhibits radiative heat loss. These high-temperature collectors are used more frequently for commercial applications as their high temperatures are inappropriate for the majority of mid-temp solar water heating applications.
